Choosing bamboo skewer diameter and length

Published · Updated

Which bamboo skewer diameter and length should you order?

Use 2.5–3.0 mm for fruit, cheese and canapés, 3.5–4.0 mm for chicken, paneer and vegetables, and 5.0–6.0 mm for lamb, kebab rolls and heavy loads. Length should exceed the food by 30–40 mm so there is a clean handle.

  • 2.5–3.0 mm: fruit, cheese, canapés.
  • 3.5–4.0 mm: chicken, paneer, mixed vegetables.
  • 5.0–6.0 mm: lamb, kebab rolls, heavy skewers.
  • Add 30–40 mm beyond the food for a handle.

How do you match diameter to the food?

Diameter is a load question. Light, low-density items need a thin stick that does not tear them; dense protein needs a thicker section that will not flex when the skewer is turned. 3.5 mm is the single most ordered diameter because it spans most of a mixed menu.

How long should the skewer be?

Measure the length of food on the stick and add 30 to 40 mm for the handle. For a 150 mm run of food, a 200 mm skewer is right; 250 mm gives a more generous grip for a hot grill.

How does pack count change with size?

Inner packs hold 200 pieces up to 3.5 mm, 100 pieces at 4.0 and 5.0 mm, and 50 pieces at 6.0 mm, so a carton stays a consistent physical size across the range.
