Plastic-to-bamboo switch calculator

Put in what you get through in a month. You get the yearly piece count, the kilos of plastic that leaves your business, the packs to order and — if you enter both rates — what the switch actually does to your annual spend.

What does this calculator work out?

For each plastic item you use, it converts monthly usage into a yearly piece count, estimates the kilos of plastic removed from typical piece weights, names the bamboo replacement and its HSN code, converts the volume into packs per month and per year, and compares your current plastic rate with a quoted bamboo rate to show the annual cost difference.

  • Pieces per year, per day and kilos of plastic removed
  • Restricted items flagged against India's plastic rules
  • Bamboo replacement and HSN code for each line
  • Packs per month and per year, ready to order
  • Cost per 1,000: plastic today vs bamboo quoted

Your usage and rates

Only the monthly usage column is required. Add your current plastic rate and the bamboo rate we quote you — both per 1,000 pieces, excluding GST — to see the cost column fill in. We do not pre-fill prices we have not quoted you.

Before you switch: the compliance check

The restriction is written by item, so a business can be compliant on cups and non-compliant on the stirrer beside them. Work through the single-use plastic checklist SKU by SKU, and read the plain-English summary of the rules.

Questions this tool answers

Which plastic items must Indian food businesses replace?
India's Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules restrict identified single-use plastic items, including plastic stirrers, plastic cutlery, plastic sticks for balloons, flags and candy, and ear buds with plastic sticks. The list is written item by item, so each SKU has to be audited separately.
How does the calculator work out kilos of plastic removed?
It multiplies your yearly piece count by a typical piece weight for that format — 0.6 g for a coffee stirrer, 0.9 g for a candy stick, 0.35 g for an ear-bud stem, 2.5 g for a flag or balloon stick, 1.2 g for a plastic skewer and 2.0 g for a pick or cutlery piece. Weigh a hundred of your own pieces if you need an audit-grade number.
Does bamboo cost more than plastic?
It depends on the format and volume, so the calculator asks for both rates instead of assuming. Enter your current plastic rate per 1,000 pieces and the bamboo rate we quote you, and it shows the annual difference item by item. Stirrers and candy sticks are usually close to parity at carton volumes.
How do I evidence the switch in an audit?
Keep a purchase invoice naming the material for every restricted-item replacement. Our GST invoices name the item and its HSN code — 1401 for bamboo sticks and stirrers, 4602 for paddle and flag picks, 4421 for skewers.
